The Construction

Ever felt welcomed, both physically and emotionally embraced in a place, without quite knowing why? It could be the sensory architecture awakening positive associations in you. The concept of architecture designed to benefit people is employed to bring the Casa dos Sentidos to life. Developed collectively and collaboratively by artists, architects, and designers, the experience serves as a way to construct meaning, memory, and identity from each person’s own repertoire. It is a meticulous, almost invisible work that involves materials, lighting, scenography, and a myriad of details which, combined with art, enhance its power.

There´s a real close tie between the art scene and the story of humanity. Even though the concept can get pretty abstract and kindle debates, everyone’s can agree that art’s been a way for us to express ourselves and leave our mark on the timeline. Montenegro Productions made the call to use art as the platform to tackle some real-deal societal issues over at the Casa dos Sentidos. While not aiming to shine a spotlight on autism specifically, the goal was to soak up inspiration from it and create a one-of-a-kind set design. Going through that experience sparked up some real talk and exchanges that laid the groundwork for the whole project.

1st edition

ANDRÉ COELHO

The soul of the place, the kitchen, is where the illustrator André Coelho teams up with architect Givago Ferentz to generate a buzz – but with a splash of color, poetry painted on the walls, and a bit of video magic.

DANIÉLLE CARAZZAI

The dining room crafted by ceramist Daniélle Carazzai and architect Mariana Saltini delves into the unfamiliar. Everything seems a bit out of place, be it in size, function, or color. Except for the main course: the love for what’s diverse and It’s not anchored to a fixed spot.

EDUARDO RAMOS

Dubbed the Sensory Box, the first space of the house took shape under the hands of playwright Eduardo Ramos and designer Jorge Teixeira, who employ a variety of languages, including visual and auditory interactions, as a prelude to entering the house.

GUILHERME ZAWA

Visual artist Guilherme Zawa and architect Guta Nagano put together, through touching, an experimental space with photographs and textures, where everything touched is also tactually explored.

VERÔNICA FUKUDA

A sea-forest-bedroom is the setting created by visual artist Verônica Fukuda in collaboration with architect Nonnie Fenianos. Together, they bring forth a visual experience that reveals how wondrous it is to see things through the prism of the heart.

2nd edition

GIUSY DE LUCA

With over 15 years in production, Giusy is at the helm of Mucha Tinta Cultural Productions. Holding a degree in Graphic Design from PUCPR and specialized in Slowdesign through Design ao Vivo, Giusy spearheads multidisciplinary projects that engage creative networks and communication. Her primary focus lies in cultural initiatives that intertwine public administrations, private enterprises, and artists, with an emphasis on art and education, concerts, corporate events, urban art, and representation.

ALINE PROVENSI

An audiovisual artist and autism specialist psychologist, Aline curated the inclusive and interactive photographic exhibition “Sublime ao Entrar.” Additionally, she works as an illustrator and creator of web-based comic stories, aimed at raising awareness and providing information about neurodivergences. An advocate for neurodiversity, Aline is autistic, has ADHD, and possesses high abilities/giftedness. She’s in charge of crafting the bathroom for the House.

BRUNA ALCANTARA

Bruna Alcantara, is a journalist and artist who distinctly manifests journalistic influences in her work. Her artistic exploration digs into different realms of culture and information channels, as well as the relationships of the female body in social and historical contexts, utilizing textile art, wheat paste posters, and photography as techniques. In the House, she is set to unveil a universe rooted in emotional memory, featuring afternoon tea crockery, alongside photographs and embroideries.

BRUNO ROMÃ

A self-taught visual artist and illustrator, Bruno Romã’s creative explorations source from various techniques and platforms like drawing, painting, muralism, and ceramics. His main influences come from Brazilian popular culture, particularly the experiences within the caiçara community of Paraná, a group connected to traditional fishermen and coastal dwellers. Bruno, having deeply engaged with this culture for a decade, brings the essence of it to his artistic pursuits. His upcoming space will reflect his studies on masks and emotional memories.

DANIÉLLE CARAZZAI

Journalist, writer, and visual artist, Daniélle Carazzai is a co-author of the books “Vida, histórias da pandemia” (Life, stories of the pandemic) and “A história das estórias” (The history of stories) from Montenegro Produções. A participant in the first edition of Casa dos Sentidos, this time she will contribute as a journalist, translating scientific data and establishing links for the Brain, the environment that kicks off Casa dos Sentidos.

MARCELLA CALADO

An active visual artist and illustrator since 2015, Marcella enjoys exploring various techniques such as printmaking, painting, and digital art. Graffiti is her most recent passion, where she seeks to create her art on large murals. In Casa dos Sentidos, she will be tasked with conceptualizing the bedroom, where she will play with the whimsical world of children’s dreams.
